Brioude is a french municipality, located in the Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are called the Brivadoises and the Brivadois. With 6,616 inhabitants, Brioude is the fourth most populous city in the department, behind Le Puy-en-Velay, Monistrol-sur-Loire and Yssingeaux.
Sub-prefecture of Haute-Loire and capital of Brivadois, the city is located, 430 meters above sea level, in a small limagne that bears his name. It is bathed by the waters of the Allier and protected from floods by its alluvial promontory. To the east, the Livradois mountains overlook the plain while to the south and to the west begins the Margeride. Nicknamed "Brioude la Douce" since Sidoine Apollinaire, in the fifth century, the city, attractive and commercial, is the capital of the Brivadois. Brioude is located 70 km southeast of Clermont-Ferrand, 60 km north-west of Puy-en-Velay, the prefecture of the department, 48 km northeast of Saint-Flour and 486 km from Paris.
