The Costa Meloneras is the name given to the beach and sea front region specifically from Maspalomas lighthouse at the Southern tip of Gran Canaria to Arguinaguin, a small coastal fishing village further round the coastline (now a small resrt in itself).
The Costa Meloneras includes the stunning white sands of Maspalomas, although sadly some have now been washed away naturally by increasing high tides. The whole sea front area is dotted with 5 star restaurants and hotels. A very expensive area and you will pay prime letting price in any apartment in this region. The hotels include Lopospan and several high mark hotels popular with the German tourists mainly, such as RIU. The area of Meloneras is very pleasant indeed but too expensive for my tastes as you constantly feel like you should be on show and you actually gain very little except for a closer proximity to the seafront area. Note: The seafront area in Maspalomas is by the magnificent dunes and the majority of apartments and holiday homes are behind this area meaning a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. Otherwise the expensive hotels are right upto the beach front but expect high prices for the convenience. Entertainment along the Costa Meloneras is limited to some expensive bars and restaurants, Casino and Piano bars.
